Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi Meets the United Nations Resident Coordinator ad interim in Iraq ••••• Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi met today, Tuesday, with the United Nations Resident Coordinator ad interim in Iraq, Mr. Peter Hawkins. During the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations and ways to strengthen partnership in the development and economic fields, in line with the priorities of the Iraqi government and the Sustainable Development Goals. They also discussed UN efforts to support development and reform programs, strengthen institutions, and expand technical and advisory cooperation. The Prime Minister noted that, in light of the government’s economic reform plans, it is working to develop rural areas and support the agricultural sector, alongside supporting and developing the private sector, thereby contributing to sustainable development and economic diversification. The Prime Minister stated that the move toward establishing a development fund will contribute to financing agricultural sector projects and establishing industrial cities, as well as projects in the health and education sectors to be implemented by the private sector. He affirmed that such projects would contribute to advancing development and generating more job opportunities. Prime Minister Al-Zaidi emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination with the United Nations and benefiting from its expertise and programs in supporting the reform and development process, in a manner that strengthens economic and social stability and consolidates Iraq’s standing and regional and international role.
