Prime Minister Mr. Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi receives the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Iraq •••••••••• Today, Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Mr. Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, received the Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator in Iraq, Mr. Peter Hawkins. During the meeting, cooperation relations between Iraq and the United Nations were discussed, and ways to strengthen partnership in the developmental and economic fields, in line with the Iraqi government’s priorities and sustainable development goals, as well as international efforts to support development and reform programs, strengthen institutions, and develop areas of technical and advisory cooperation. The Prime Minister indicated that the government, in light of its economic reform plans, is working to develop the countryside and support the agricultural sector, in addition to supporting and developing the private sector, which contributes to achieving sustainable development and diversifying the economy. His Excellency explained that the trend towards establishing a development fund would contribute to financing agricultural sector projects and the establishment of industrial cities, as well as projects in the health and education sectors, which the private sector would undertake, stressing that such projects would contribute to achieving development and generating more job opportunities. Mr. Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination with the United Nations, and benefiting from its expertise and programs in supporting the path of reform and development, to enhance economic and social stability, and to consolidate Iraq’s status and its regional and international role.
