Türkiye, Arab countries, GCC condemn Israeli strikes on Abu al-Duhur

Capitals, Aug. 18 (SANA)Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt and the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in Syria’sIdlibprovince on Tuesday, urging the international community and the UN Security Council to take firm action to stop repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the strikes were part of Israel’s reckless attacks on Syria’sinfrastructureand capabilities, violated the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and disregarded international law. It called for accountability and urged theinternational communityto adopt a firmer position to halt the escalating attacks, according to Anadolu Agency.

Saudi Arabia condemned the strikes as a blatant violation of international law and Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reaffirming its solidarity with Syria and support for measures to preserve its security, stability and unity.

Kuwait described the strikes as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a dangerous escalation that could undermine regional security and stability. It called on the international community and the UN Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities, stop repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and ensure respect forinternational lawand the UN Charter.

Egypt also condemned the strikes as a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter. It warned that Israel’s continued violations could undermine efforts to support stability in Syria and the region and threatenregional securityand peace.

Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned the strikes, saying the targeting of Syrian territory was an unacceptable assault on Syria’s sovereignty and violated international norms prohibiting interference in the sovereignty of states. He warned that continued attacks would increase tensions, undermine regional and international efforts to promote security and stability, and called for a firm international position to halt them.

US Special Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq Tom Barrack said the strikes were an unjustified escalation that did not contribute toregional stability, adding that the Syrian government had not adopted a hostile position and had repeatedly expressed its desire to de-escalate. He stressed that lasting de-escalation agreements were built through sustained dialogue, describing restraint and communication as the most constructive path.

Earlier Tuesday, Syria condemned the strikes as an unjustified act of aggression, a blatant violation of sovereignty and a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability.
