ITLA y UASD articulan esfuerzos para ampliar la educación tecnológica y la formación en IA
Santo Domingo.-The Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) are advancing in the articulation of initiatives aimed at expanding access to technological education, strengthening training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM, in English) and promoting the development of skills in artificial intelligence in the Dominican Republic.
During a meeting held at the ITLA headquarters, rector Jimmy Rosario Bernard highlighted the importance of bringing technology and specialized training closer to a greater number of citizens, as part of a vision focused on the democratization of technological education, the generation of opportunities and the preparation of human talent that the knowledge economy demands.
“We have called this the democratization of technological education: bringing STEM careers and technology, in a general sense, to the entire world,” said Rosario Bernard.
The rector explained that this vision seeks to expand access to technological training, especially among young people and professionals, as a way to promote social mobility and contribute to more Dominicans being able to integrate into sectors with greater growth and demand for talent.
“The idea is not to create a million experts in AI, but for a million Dominicans - teachers, lawyers, doctors, businessmen - to do better what they already do, supported by artificial intelligence,” he pointed out.
Participating on behalf of the UASD were Rosel Fernández, vice-rector for Teaching, representing the magnificent rector, Jorge Asjana David; Maribel Lorenzo, dean of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences; Carlos Félix Sánchez, dean of the Faculty of Sciences, and Zoila Anitza Gutiérrez, dean of the Faculty of Arts, along with other representatives of the House of Higher Studies.
During the meeting, the authorities addressed the deepening of the 2+2 model, which facilitates the continuity of technologists who graduated from ITLA towards degree programs at the UASD and strengthens the articulation between technological and university education.
Likewise, both institutions plan to advance the “UASD-ITLA” concept in the regional centers, with the purpose of optimizing the available infrastructure, expanding the coverage of higher technical education and bringing training opportunities in STEM, innovation and emerging technologies to students throughout the country.
AI, Automation and Cybersecurity
Artificial intelligence, automation, cybersecurity and other emerging technologies occupy a priority place within the lines of training and collaboration analyzed during the meeting.
In this context, both institutions seek to expand training opportunities and develop initiatives that strengthen the skills of students, teachers and professionals in the face of the changes experienced by education, the labor market and the different productive sectors.
The vision raised by the rector of ITLA is based on the fact that artificial intelligence should be an accessible and useful tool for professionals from different areas, beyond those who directly specialize in technology.
This perspective places technological training, artificial intelligence and the development of digital skills as fundamental elements to expand opportunities for citizens and strengthen the competitiveness of the Dominican Republic.

Durante el encuentro, las autoridades abordaron la profundización delmodelo 2+2,que facilita lacontinuidad de los tecnólogosegresados del ITLA hacia carreras de grado en la UASD y fortalece la articulación entre laeducación tecnológica y universitaria. Asimismo, ambas instituciones proyectan avanzar en el concepto“UASD-ITLA”en los centros regionales, con el propósito de optimizar la infraestructura disponible, ampliar la cobertura de la educación técnica superior y acercar oportunidades deformación en STEM, innovación y tecnologías emergentesa estudiantes de todo el país. IA, Automatización y Ciberseguridad La inteligencia artificial, la automatización, la ciberseguridady otras tecnologías emergentes ocupan un lugar prioritario dentro de las líneas deformación y colaboraciónanalizadas durante la reunión. En este contexto, ambas instituciones procuranampliar las oportunidadesde capacitación y desarrollar iniciativas que permitan fortalecer las competencias deestudiantes, docentes y profesionalesfrente a los cambios que experimentan la educación, el mercado laboral y los distintos sectores productivos. La visión planteada por el rector del ITLA parte de que la inteligencia artificial debe ser unaherramienta accesible y útilpara profesionales de diferentes áreas, más allá de quienes se especializan directamente en tecnología. Esta perspectiva coloca la formación tecnológica, la inteligencia artificial y el desarrollo de competencias digitales comoelementos fundamentalespara ampliar las oportunidades de los ciudadanos yfortalecer la competitividadde la República Dominicana.
