Caasd presenta programa para fortalecer seguridad hídrica del Gran Santo Domingo, Sánchez Ramírez y Monte Plata
Santo Domingo.-The Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Caasd) presented to national and international companies the bidding processes corresponding to the Hatillo Dam Water Security Program, an initiative that seeks to strengthen the supply of drinking water in Greater Santo Domingo and the Sánchez Ramírez and Monte Plata provinces.
The presentation was made during an International Roadshow held at the Hotel Catalonia Santo Domingo, where representatives of engineering, construction, operation and water infrastructure companies learned about the institutional, contractual and technical aspects of the program, as well as the opportunities for participation in the contracting process.
The general director of the Caasd, engineer Fellito Suberví, led the day and highlighted the importance of the program to strengthen the supply of drinking water in Greater Santo Domingo, Sánchez Ramírez and Monte Plata, through planning aimed at guaranteeing greater reliability of the service and responding to the growing demand of the population.
During the presentations, technicians explained the scope of the works contemplated by the program, including the incorporation of a new supply source from the Hatillo reservoir, production and purification infrastructure, a main pipeline to Santo Domingo and distribution networks to improve supply in benefited communities.
The program is part of a strategy aimed at strengthening water security in the country and increasing the reliability of the drinking water service in areas that concentrate a significant part of the Dominican population. In addition to infrastructure works, it incorporates actions to improve the operational sustainability of the Caasd and strengthen the management of the supply system in the long term.
Likewise, representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) explained the procurement framework applicable to the program and the modalities through which companies can participate in the contracting process. They also detailed the general evaluation criteria related to technical and financial capabilities and integrity requirements established for bidders.
As part of the event, international contracting experts presented the prequalification process and the contractual structure of the different lots that make up the program, which cover the production of drinking water, the Hatillo-Santo Domingo main pipeline, and the regulation and distribution works in Greater Santo Domingo.
The Hatillo Dam and Sánchez Ramírez Supply Water Security Program - Santo Domingo has a total estimated investment of USD 750 million, financed through a co-financing scheme between the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) and the Dominican State.
