U.D. Presidentja Haxhiu: Historia e Rrustë Kabashit është e lidhur ngushtë me Prizrenin
The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, participated today in the Memorial Academy for Rrustë Kabashi.
In her speech to the audience, U.D. President Haxhiu has said that the history of Rrustë Kabashi is closely connected with Prizren and with the time when Albanians, after the League of Prizren, continued to look for ways to organize and oppose the Ottoman rule.
U.D. President Haxhiu further said that he devoted more than thirty years of his life to the struggle for freedom, until on August 18, 1910, he was sentenced to be hanged right here, in Prizren.
"Rrustë Kabashi had grown up politically at the time of the Albanian League of Prizren and belonged to that generation that, even after its suppression, did not give up organization and opposition. From the beginning of 1880, he had started his patriotic activity. In Zojz, in 1882, he was among the organizers of the assembly where the Ottoman administration was openly opposed. Two years later, Rrustë Kabashi led in Podrimë and in the vicinity of Prizren. When the persecutions and imprisonments did not stop him, the Ottoman authorities also extended the punishment to his family and property. The towers of the Kabashi chiefs were confiscated, while the family members were forcibly sent to Prizren, as a means of forcing the chiefs to surrender," said U.D. President Haxhiu.
U.D. President Haxhiu further said that Rrustë Kabashi did not retreat, on the contrary, the years of persecution and resistance strengthened his authority among the people of the province, so much so that the Ottoman government sometimes followed him and sometimes was forced to enter into negotiations with him.
"He continued to participate in the assemblies and to be among the leaders who organized the opposition, maintaining for years the influence he had gained among his people. When the Young Turks came to power in 1908, hopes for change quickly faded. Disarmament policies, persecutions and military interventions in Kosovo brought new clashes, and Rrustë Kabashi again aligned himself with those who opposed him. In the wave of repression that followed the uprising of 1910, he was brought before the military court in Prizren, he was sentenced to death", said U.D. President Haxhiu.
According to U.D. To President Haxhiu, his death did not close the memory of him, adding further that the name of Rrustë Kabash remained in songs, in Prizren and Kabash, and was passed down through the generations as the name of a man who for most of his life did not retreat from the opposition to the Ottoman power.
"One hundred and sixteen years later, we remember Rrustë Kabashi from a free and independent Kosovo. He did not have the opportunity to live at the time when Albanians would decide for their own country, but the effort to which he dedicated his life belongs to the same long history that, after many generations and many sacrifices, brought us to our state. Therefore, it is significant that today, precisely in Prizren where he was sentenced and hanged, Rrustë Kabashi is commemorated and honored by the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo and by its citizens", said U.D. President Haxhiu.
In the end, U.D. President Haxhiu said that time has changed the place of his punishment instead of honoring him.

Presidentja Haxhiu, ka thënë se historia e Rrustë Kabashit është e lidhur ngushtë me Prizrenin dhe me kohën kur shqiptarët, pas Lidhjes së Prizrenit, vazhdonin të kërkonin rrugë për t’u organizuar e për t’iu kundërvënë sundimit osman. Presidentja Haxhiu më tej tha se përpjekjes për liri ai ia kushtoi më shumë se tridhjetë vjet të jetës së tij, derisa më 18 gusht 1910 u dënua me varje pikërisht këtu, në Prizren. “Rrustë Kabashi ishte rritur politikisht në kohën e Lidhjes Shqiptare të Prizrenit dhe i përkiste atij brezi që, edhe pas shtypjes së saj, nuk hoqi dorë nga organizimi dhe kundërshtimi. Që në fillim të vitit 1880 ai kishte nisur aktivitetin e tij atdhetar. Në Zojz, në vitin 1882, ai ishte ndër organizatorët e kuvendit ku u kundërshtua hapur administrata osmane. Dy vjet më vonë, Rrustë Kabashi i priu qëndresës në Podrimë dhe në rrethinë të Prizrenit. Kur as ndjekjet dhe burgosjet nuk e ndalën, autoritetet osmane e shtrinë ndëshkimin edhe mbi familjen dhe pasurinë e tij. Kullat e krerëve të Kabashit u dogjën, pasuria iu konfiskua, ndërsa familjarët u dërguan me forcë në Prizren, si mjet presioni për t’i detyruar krerët të dorëzoheshin”, u shpreh U.D. Presidentja Haxhiu. U.D. Presidentja Haxhiu tutje tha se Rrustë Kabashi nuk u tërhoq, përkundrazi, vitet e përndjekjes dhe qëndresës ia forcuan autoritetin ndër njerëzit e krahinës, aq sa pushteti osman herë e ndiqte e herë detyrohej të hynte në bisedime me të. “Ai vazhdoi të merrte pjesë në kuvende dhe të ishte ndër krerët që organizonin kundërshtimin, duke ruajtur për vite me radhë ndikimin që kishte fituar mes njerëzve të vet. Kur më 1908 në pushtet erdhën xhonturqit, shpresat për ndryshim u shuan shpejt. Politikat e çarmatimit, ndjekjet dhe ndërhyrjet ushtarake në Kosovë sollën përplasje të reja, dhe Rrustë Kabashi u rreshtua përsëri mes atyre që i kundërshtuan. Në valën e represionit që pasoi kryengritjen e vitit 1910, ai u nxor para gjykatës ushtarake në Prizren, u dënua me vdekje”, u shpreh U.D. Presidentja Haxhiu. Sipas U.D. Presidentes Haxhiu, vdekja e tij nuk e mbylli kujtimin për të, duke shtuar më tej se emri i Rrustë Kabashit mbeti në këngë, në Prizren e në Kabash, dhe u përcoll ndër breza si emri i një njeriu që për pjesën më të madhe të jetës së tij nuk u tërhoq nga kundërshtimi ndaj pushtetit osman. “Njëqind e gjashtëmbëdhjetë vjet më vonë, ne e kujtojmë Rrustë Kabashin nga një Kosovë e lirë dhe e pavarur. Ai nuk e pati mundësinë të jetonte në kohën kur shqiptarët do të vendosnin vetë për vendin e tyre, por përpjekja së cilës ai i kushtoi jetën i përket së njëjtës histori të gjatë që, pas shumë brezash e shumë sakrificash, na solli deri te shteti ynë. Prandaj është me domethënie që sot, pikërisht në Prizrenin ku u dënua dhe u var, Rrustë Kabashi përkujtohet e nderohet nga institucionet e Republikës së Kosovës dhe nga qytetarët e saj”, tha U.D. Presidentja Haxhiu. Në fund, U.D. Presidentja Haxhiu tha se koha e ka kthyer vendin e dënimit të tij në vend të nderimit të tij.
