Ministerio de Educación asegura cobertura total de docentes para el año escolar 2026-2027
Santo Domingo.-The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) assured that it has 100% covered the need for teachers for the start of the 2026-2027 school year, while maintaining an extensive training and updating program for the national teaching profession.
The information was offered by the Vice Minister of Teacher Accreditation and Certification, Francisco D'Oleo, during an interview on the television program, in which he explained that the educational system has the required teachers to guarantee the start of the next school period.
D'Oleo specified that the Ministry of Education renewed the contracts of approximately 10,000 teachers who had been incorporated last year, while explaining that, although the system may register specific needs during the year due to retirements, illnesses or other situations that cause staff mobility, these can be met with the existing availability.
“We have 100% covered the need for teachers for the beginning of the next school year,” said D'Oleo, who highlighted that, unlike other countries that face difficulties in having teachers, the Dominican Republic currently has the capacity to respond to the requirements of the educational system.
In parallel, Minerd develops a process of training and updating the teaching profession with the participation of more than 90,000 teachers during the sessions held in the summer period.
D'Oleo indicated that these trainings will continue after the start of classes, with the participation of technicians and specialists who will work on new methodologies and pedagogical strategies aimed at strengthening teachers' skills.
According to D'Oleo, the objective is that the training responds to specific needs, especially in the pedagogical and methodological aspects that affect the performance of teachers and the quality of learning.
The vice minister also highlighted the role of universities and higher education institutes in the initial training of future teachers and stated that the preparation and updating of the teaching profession constitutes one of the fundamental components of educational transformation.

De acuerdo con D´ Oleo, el objetivo es que la capacitación responda a necesidades concretas, especialmente en losaspectos pedagógicos y metodológicosque inciden en el desempeño de los maestros y en la calidad de los aprendizajes. El viceministro resaltó también el papel de lasuniversidades y los institutos de educación superioren la formación inicial de los futuros docentes y afirmó que la preparación y actualización del magisterio constituye uno de loscomponentes fundamentales de la transformación educativa.
