Jordan condemns Iranian drone attack targeting Iraqi Kurdistan

Amman, Aug. 18 (SANA)Jordan condemned Tuesday an Iranian drone attack targeting the private office of Iraqi Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the Protection Agency director in Erbil, calling it a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, security and stability.

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates reaffirmed the Kingdom’s solidarity with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and stressed the need to respect state sovereignty and prevent actions threatening regional security.

The Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Service said Monday that two drones targeted the regional prime minister’s office and the Protection Agency director’s residence, with no casualties reported.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates also condemned the attack. Saudi Arabia rejected actions targeting political and official figures or Iraqi state institutions, while Qatar called for dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation. The UAE reaffirmed its solidarity with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein called the attack a dangerous and unjustified escalation that could threaten Iraq’s security and stability and have regional repercussions.
