Tartous, Aug. 18 (SANA)Three Syrian Electricity Company workers were killed Tuesday in an explosion during maintenance work at theBaniyas Thermal Power Plantin Tartous province.

Alaa Sawda, head of the company’s Public Relations and Media Department, told SANA theexplosionoccurred while a component of a hydrogen tank was being replaced. He said the plant remained operational and was not affected by the blast.

Tartous Governorate said Civil Defense teams responded to the incident and dealt with its aftermath. Baniyas District Director Omar Mansour inspected the site and was briefed on the circumstances of the explosion, while relevant authorities continued to follow up on the incident and complete necessary procedures.

Earlier Tuesday, theTartous HealthDirectorate’s media office told SANA that three fatalities had been brought to Baniyas Hospital following the explosion.

The Ministry of Energy mourned theSyrian Electricity Companyworkers killed while performing their duties and extended condolences to their families and colleagues.
