Three killed as heavy rains, floods hit Venezuela
Caracas, Aug. 17 (SANA)Three people, including two girls, were killed after heavy rains triggered flooding inVenezuela’s capital,Caracas, and other parts of the country, local authorities said.
Caracas fire department chief Pablo Antonio Palacios Salazar said two underage girls were swept away by flash floods and died, AFP reported.
A 49-year-old woman was also killed when a wall collapsed during the flooding, while at least 30 homes were inundated in the eastern city of Sucre.
Heavy rains from Saturday night into Sunday morning also uprooted trees and destroyed tents sheltering people displaced by two earthquakes that struck Venezuela in June.
Two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale struck Venezuela on June 24, leaving thousands of casualties and displaced people and causing widespread damage in areas north of Caracas.
