China launches fast Arctic shipping route to Europe
Beijing, Aug. 17 (SANA)China has launched regular weekly container shipping services toEuropethrough the Arctic for the summer season, offering a faster route for moving goods between the two markets, Xinhua reported.
The container ship Dubai Tower departed Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in easternChina’sZhejiang province, marking the start of regular seasonal operations along the route.
The service crosses theArctic’sNortheast Passage and connects China with major ports in Britain, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland.
The route operator said an initial trial voyage last September took about 20 days to reach the British port of Felixstowe, roughly half the time required for shipping through the Suez Canal and faster than overland freight rail services.
The vessel is carrying high-value and temperature-sensitive products manufactured in the Yangtze River Delta, including energy-storage systems, batteries, photovoltaic modules and components for new energy vehicles.
The route operates mainly from July to October because of seasonal ice conditions, with at least eight voyages planned for 2026.
Trade in goods between China and the European Union reached $447.8 billion in the first half of the year, up 14.2% from the same period in 2025.
