Erdoğan, UK Prime Minister discuss regional developments, bilateral ties

Ankara, Aug. 17 (SANA)Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone call on Monday with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham to discuss regional andinternational developments, the Turkish presidency said.

The two leaders also addressed bilateral relations, which have seen significant progress through cooperation across all fields, particularly in the defense industry sector, according to a statement from the presidency’s communications directorate on X.

Erdoğan expressed confidence in further strengthening Turkish-British relations, noting that both countries will continue working together to achieve their goals of increasing trade volume and expandinginvestment, while maintaining focus on the strategic, security and defense partnership between the two nations.

The call follows earlier discussions this month between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his British counterpart Ed Miliband onregional developmentsand de-escalation efforts.

Türkiye and the UK have maintained close defense industry cooperation, with recent agreements including the supply of Turkish-made drones to the UK and joint development projects in defense technologies.
