Presidente Luis Abinader designa a Ernesto Rodríguez García como nuevo director de la Policía Nacional
SantoDomingo.–President Luis Abinader appointed General Ernesto Rafael Rodríguez García as the new director general of the National Police and ordered his promotion to the rank of major general, through Decree No. 558-26, issued within the framework of the constitutional powers of the Executive Branch.
The provision establishes that Rodríguez García will assume the leadership of the law enforcement institution, in compliance with the provisions of Law No. 590-16, Organic of the National Police, which provides that the general director must be an active general police officer and hold the rank of major general during the exercise of his duties.
With the new designation, Article 1 of Decree No. is repealed. 111-26, of February 17, 2026, by which the previous head of the institution had been appointed.
The decree also provides that Major General Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz be placed in honorable retirement status, after ceasing his duties as director general of the National Police.
The appointment is added to the changes made by President Abinader in different State institutions as part of the reorganization process of the government train.

La disposición establece que Rodríguez García asumirá la conducción de la institución del orden, en cumplimiento de lo establecido por laLey núm. 590-16, Orgánica de la Policía Nacional, que dispone que el director general debe ser unoficial general policial activoy ostentar el rango demayor generaldurante el ejercicio de sus funciones. Con la nueva designaciónqueda derogadoel artículo 1 delDecreto núm. 111-26, del 17 de febrero de 2026, mediante el cual había sido designado el anterior titular de la institución. El decreto también dispone que elmayor general Andrés Modesto CruzCruzsea colocado enhonrosa situación de retiro, tras el cese de sus funciones como director general de la Policía Nacional. El nombramiento se suma a los cambios realizados por elpresidente Abinaderen distintas instituciones del Estado como parte delproceso de reorganizacióndel tren gubernamental.
