Trump urges Iran to surrender and threatens military action against Oman
Washington, Aug. 17 (SANA)US President Donald Trumpcalled onIranto surrender Monday as negotiations to end the war remained stalled, while threatening to bomb Oman if it obstructed Washington’s objectives.
“They should put up the white flag of surrender,” Trump said in a telephone interview with Fox News.
An interim agreement reached in June called for an immediate and permanent end to military operations and committed Washington and Tehran to negotiating a final settlement within 60 days, with a possible extension by mutual consent.
The agreement quickly collapsed. Trump declared it over on July 7, while Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced its suspension a week later. Monday marked the end of the initial 60-day negotiating period.
The proposed final agreement was expected to address broader issues, including the future of Iran’s nuclear program.
Oman has separately held talks with Iran aimed at restoring commercial shipping through theStrait of Hormuz, a major energy route that carried about 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies before the US-Israeli attacks on Iran began in late February.
