The incident comes days after Iraqi government spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi said the country’s Counter-Terrorism Service and National Intelligence Service had dismantled a network that possessed drones and was planning operations against specific targets.
Al-Aboudi said on Aug. 9 that members of the network had been arrested following an intelligence operation.
