EU funding for the establishment of national research infrastructure on genomics
The project will facilitate the establishment of an integrated national research infrastructure on genomics providing high-throughput sequencing, genome analysis, as well as safe long-term storage and reuse of data for research and clinical purposes. The project includes the purchase of state-of-the-art research equipment and materials needed for research and innovation, both facilitating the implementation of the entire process from sample preparation to result interpretation.
The infrastructure will support the advancement of functional genomics, enable complex population studies and contribute to better understanding of genetic and biological mechanisms underlying diseases. The project will also provide an appropriate data and computing environment for managing large volumes of sensitive data, allowing its integration into national and European databases and data systems. This will help strengthen Slovenia's capacity in genomics, improve conditions for research, foster collaboration and support the further development of personalised medicine.
The €3.6 million project will be implemented under Slovenia's EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. It will receive €1,440,000 from the Cohesion Fund. The beneficiary of the funding is the University of Ljubljana.
