Arab League condemns Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon
Cairo, Aug. 16 (SANA)TheArab Leagueon Saturday condemned continuedIsraeli attackson southern Lebanon, particularly inNabatiehand surrounding areas, warning that the strikes undermine efforts to end the conflict and threaten Lebanon’s sovereignty.The spokesperson for the Arab League secretary-general said the attacks represented a serious escalation and a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, stressing that Israel is seeking to prolong confrontations, hinder negotiations and impose new realities on the ground.The spokesperson warned that the situation could escalate into a broader conflict unless the international community acts to halt the attacks and ensure the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.The Arab League expressed full solidarity with Lebanon and its people, reaffirming its support for efforts to protect the country’s security, stability, sovereignty and civil peace.Lebanon’s Health Ministrysaid earlier Saturday that 13 people were killed and 14 others wounded in an Israeli strike targeting a house in Nabatieh district in southern Lebanon.Lebanese PresidentJoseph Aouncondemned the attack, saying it sent a clear message regarding negotiations and U.S.-backed efforts to implement the agreement.Lebanon and Israel signed a framework agreement on June 26 that includes provisions for disarming armed groups not affiliated with the Lebanese state, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they entered in southern Lebanon and the deployment of the Lebanese army in designated areas.R.D/ABD
