Sisi, Kushner discuss Middle East developments, Gaza peace plan

Cairo, Aug. 16 (SANA)Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met on Sunday with US envoy Jared Kushner to discuss current developments in the Middle East and ways to supportregional securityand stability, the Egyptian presidency said.

El-Sisi stressed the importance of continued joint work to address current challenges, and the need to resolve various crises in the region to preservestabilityand protect the interests of its peoples, according to a presidential spokesman’s statement.

The talks covered the latest developments in the Palestinian cause, with both sides emphasizing the need for all parties to fulfill their commitments under theGazaceasefire agreement signed at the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit in October last year.

Kushner commended the close coordination between the two sides, affirming thatEgyptrepresents a pivotal and essential partner in the region.

Kushner’s visit to Cairo is part ofdiplomatic effortsto activate the “Gaza Peace Plan” proposed by the US administration, following the entry into force of the Gaza ceasefire on Oct. 10 last year, which was followed by an international peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh with the participation of more than 31 countries and international organizations.
