Magnitude 6.1 earthquake strikes off Vanuatu coast
Port Vila, Aug. 16 (SANA)A magnitude 6.1earthquakestruck off thecoast of Vanuatuin thePacific Oceanon Sunday, with no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami threat, authorities said.
TheU.S. Geological Surveysaid the earthquake struck at a depth of 188 kilometers, about 56 kilometers northeast of Port Olry, a small town on the island of Espiritu Santo.
Vanuatu’s disaster management authorities said there was no tsunami threat following the quake.
No damage was immediately reported.
