Damascus, Aug. 16 (SANA)The firstSyrian Airlines flightfromMoscowarrived atDamascus International Airporton Sunday following the liberation, marking the resumption of the carrier’s air services betweenSyriaandRussia.Omar Hosari, director general ofSyria’s Civil AviationAuthority, told SANA that the resumption of the route was part of broader efforts to rebuild Syrian Airlines’ regional and international presence.“We are working to reconnect Syria with the world, launch more direct routes and provide wider travel options for citizens,” Hosari said.He said the plans were part of an integrated strategy to expand the airline’s network and strengthen Syria’s air connectivity with regional and international destinations.Hosari said Syrian Airlines is expected to resume services to several regional and international destinations in the coming period.The expansion will also include new European destinations, which will be announced gradually as the airline continues to rebuild its international network, he added.The resumption of Moscow services is part of Syrian Airlines’ broader network expansion as Syria works to restore air connectivity after years of disruption.The carrier returned to the European market with direct Damascus-Amsterdam flights on July 2 and resumed weekly services to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, on Aug. 11.Syrian aviation authorities have also reported increased traffic through the country’s airspace, with 20,315 aircraft transiting Syria in July 2026.R.D/ABD
