Latakia, Aug. 16 (SANA)The “Green Kassab Festival” opened on Saturday evening atKassab Tourist Complexin the countryside ofLatakia province, bringing togethercultural, heritage and tourism activitiesaimed at promoting the town’s natural attractions and supporting local economic activity.

The event features artistic performances, a showcase of traditional handicrafts and heritage professions by Kassab artisans,children’s activitiesand a parade through the town square accompanied by a brass band.

Residents and visitors from severalSyrian provincesattended the opening, highlighting Kassab’s role as a destination for cultural and domestic tourism.

Latakia Tourism DirectorFadi Nizamtold SANA that the festival is being held in one of the province’s key mountaintourism areasto encourage tourism activity, support the local economy and highlight Kassab’s artistic and cultural heritage.

He said local artisans were participating by displaying handmade products, natural goods and elements of the town’s cultural heritage.

Nizam added that the festival attracted visitors fromAleppo and other Syrian provinces, as well as guests from neighboring countries, with participation from Latakia Governorate representatives, cultural, artistic, economic and community organizations, and tourism police.

Merry Sabounji, one of the participants, said she presented children’s products and sweets at the festival, adding that the turnout was positive and the organization created an enjoyable environment for families and children.

She said such events bring a positive atmosphere to Kassab and help restore its tourism and social activity.

Festival visitor Marmarnet Akoub said the event offered an opportunity to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption and strengthen social ties among members ofSyrian society.

The festival is part of efforts to promote domestic tourism, attract visitors to Kassab, stimulate local economic activity and showcase the town’s cultural heritage,handicraftsand natural products.

Located in the northern countryside ofLatakia,Kassab is known for its green mountains, forests and mild climate. It is one of the province’s most prominent summer destinations, attracting visitors with its natural, cultural and tourism features.
