Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi Launches Reconstruction Plan for Al-Diwaniyah Governorate and Declares It Iraq’s Agricultural Capital ••••• Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi met today, Saturday, with a delegation from Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, comprising members of the Council of Representatives representing the governorate, the Governor of Al-Diwaniyah, and the Chairman and members of the Provincial Council. The Prime Minister affirmed that Al-Diwaniyah Governorate deserves exceptional attention due to its agricultural and economic significance and the potential that makes it Iraq’s food basket and agricultural capital. He announced the launch of a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the governorate and the advancement of its public services, economy, and agricultural sector. During the meeting, the Prime Minister allocated IQD 1 trillion to Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, to be distributed as follows: IQD 650 billion to finance incomplete ministerial projects, foremost among them the Al-Diwaniyah Sewerage Project and the project to rehabilitate 30 residential neighborhoods, in addition to other projects, while IQD 350 billion will be allocated to settle outstanding payments owed to farmers. In this regard, the Prime Minister directed the formation of specialized committees to follow up on the implementation of the projects, ensure their completion within the specified timeframes, and address any obstacles to their implementation. In the agricultural sector, the Prime Minister directed an increase in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate’s water allocation, approved its agricultural plan, and directed that farmers be supported and agrarian reform issues be addressed, thereby strengthening the governorate’s position as Iraq’s food basket. The Prime Minister also directed that the governorate be allocated a share of the electricity generated by solar energy projects, in support of energy stability and the increased use of clean energy sources. Regarding housing, the Prime Minister affirmed that Al-Diwaniyah will be included in the One Million Residential Land Plots Project, with a share of no fewer than 100,000 land plots to be allocated to residents of the governorate who do not own a home. The Prime Minister also directed that particular attention be given to agricultural engineers and veterinarians by granting them ownership of agricultural land for investment, thereby contributing to the development of the agricultural sector and creating new employment and investment opportunities, as well as encouraging investment in the governorate and utilizing its resources and potential.
