Prime Minister Mr. Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi launches the reconstruction plan for Diwaniyah Governorate and declares it the agricultural capital of Iraq •••••••••• Today, Saturday, the Prime Minister, Mr. Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, received the delegation of Diwaniyah Governorate, which included members of the House of Representatives for the governorate, the Governor of Diwaniyah, and the President and members of the Governorate Council. The Prime Minister stressed that Diwaniyah Governorate deserves exceptional attention, because of its agricultural and economic importance, and the components it possesses that make it Iraq’s food basket and its agricultural capital, announcing the launch of an integrated plan to reconstruct the governorate and advance its service, economic and agricultural reality. During the meeting, the Prime Minister released one trillion dinars for Diwaniyah Governorate, distributed as follows: 650 billion dinars to finance uncompleted ministerial projects, foremost of which is the Diwaniyah sewerage project, and the project to rehabilitate 30 residential neighborhoods, in addition to other projects, while 350 billion dinars are allocated to pay farmers’ dues. In this regard, His Excellency directed the formation of specialized committees to follow up on the implementation of projects, ensure their completion according to the specified timings, and address the obstacles that hinder their implementation. On the agricultural side, the Prime Minister instructed to increase the water share of Diwaniyah Governorate, approve its agricultural plan, support farmers, and address the problems of agricultural reform, in a way that strengthens the governorate’s position as Iraq’s food basket. He also directed that the governorate be granted a share of the electrical energy produced from solar energy projects, in support of energy stability and promoting the use of clean energy sources. Regarding the housing file, the Prime Minister confirmed that Diwaniyah is included in the One Million Residential Plots Project, with a share of no less than 100,000 plots of land, allocated to the people of the governorate who do not own housing. He also directed attention to agricultural engineers and veterinarians, by owning agricultural lands for investment, which would contribute to developing the agricultural sector and creating new job and investment opportunities, as well as encouraging investments in the governorate and investing in its resources and potential. Mr. Al-Zaidi stressed that the government will follow up on the implementation of this plan on the ground, and Diwaniyah will be facing a new stage of reconstruction and development, in a manner befitting its status and role in the agricultural and food economy of Iraq. ••••• Media Office of the Prime Minister 15-August-2026
