President Herminie Extends Warmest Wishes to India on its 80th Independence Day

On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Seychelles, and on my own behalf, I extend to you and to the friendly people of India my warmest congratulations and best wishes on the joyous occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day.

As India commemorates this historic milestone, the people of Seychelles join you in honouring the courage, sacrifice and vision of those who secured the nation’s independence. The enduring values of democracy, unity in diversity and peaceful progress that have guided India’s journey since 1947 continue to inspire countries around the world, including our own.

The bonds of friendship and cooperation between Seychelles and India remain strong and continue to deepen. We recall with particular warmth my state visit to India in February 2026 and the highly successful state visit to Seychelles by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2026. During these exchanges we elevated our partnership through important agreements and reaffirmed our shared commitment to mutual prosperity, maritime security and sustainable development.

Our defence and security partnership stands as a cornerstone of this relationship. The handover of the fast patrol vessel Lespwar and other assets, together with ongoing cooperation in maritime domain awareness, capacity building and regional security, reflects the deep trust and mutual interest that unite our two nations in safeguarding the Indian Ocean as a zone of peace and opportunity.

The vibrant Indian diaspora in Seychelles continues to play an invaluable role in strengthening the bridge of friendship between our peoples. Their contributions to our society, economy and cultural life are deeply appreciated and serve as a living testament to the close people-to-people ties that enrich our bilateral relations.

Seychelles deeply values India’s consistent support and solidarity as a trusted partner in the Indian Ocean region and under the vision of MAHASAGAR.

On this auspicious day, I convey to Your Excellency my sincere wishes for continued good health, happiness and success. May the people of India enjoy lasting peace, progress and prosperity.
