Lebanon’s Salam says state alone responsible for military structures

Beirut, Lebanon, Aug. 15 (SANA)Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, said Saturday that dealing with any military structures on Lebanese territory was the sole responsibility of the state, calling for an immediate halt to Israeli escalation and attacks on civilians.

In a post on X, Salam described Israeli strikes since early Saturday on Nabatieh, Ansar, Deir al-Zahrani and nearby areas in southernLebanonas “extremely dangerous,” saying they undermine efforts to restore stability in the south.

Salam said the seven people killed in an Israeli strike on Ansar were not “military infrastructure,” and that the women and children killed were not military targets.

He said any military structures on Lebanese territory must be dealt with exclusively by the Lebanese state, through the army and legitimate institutions, and that their presence did not give Israel the right to violate Lebanese territory or endanger civilians.

“Israelmust stop this escalation. The security of our people and their right to live on their land are not subject to negotiation or compromise,” Salam said.

Seven people were killed and three others wounded in the strike on a house in Ansar, while two people were killed and nine wounded in a separate Israeli strike on Deir al-Zahrani, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.F.J./M.Z.
