Message from Prime Minister Janez Janša on Assumption Day

Throughout history, and particularly in times of great hardship, the Slovenian nation has always turned to Mary for help and consolation. The decision to make this religious feast day a public holiday following Slovenia's independence reflects a recognition of the importance of the Christian tradition for the Slovenian people. This is why the celebration of Assumption Day also has a patriotic dimension. It encourages us to preserve hope and courage and to remain faithful to the Christian values that form the foundation of our civilisation.

Dear citizens, believers and non-believers alike, may today's feast strengthen us in hope, courage, mutual respect and our shared values. May it remind us that the strength of a nation and its homeland stems from our unity, our respect for our roots, and our determination to build a common future on the values of Christianity.

I wish you all a beautiful and blessed Assumption Day. God bless Slovenia!
