President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the Boduthakurufaanu Handhaanee Dhoroashi in HA. Utheemu, developed as part of a project to preserve the legacy of Ghaazee Bandaarain.

The Dhoroashi was unveiled during the President’s visit to HA. Utheemu, where he and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are scheduled to participate in several activities to commemorate National Day.

The President was accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of Parliament Honourable Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Chief Justice Honourable Uz Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, Baarashu Constituency MP Ibrahim Shujaau, and members of the Cabinet. The event was also attended by distinguished individuals who have rendered long years of service to the State, foreign diplomats and a large number of members of the public.

The Boduthakurufaanu Handhaanee Dhoroashi has been designed to symbolise the historic struggle led by Boduthakurufaanu. The structure features six principal pillars modelled on the columns characteristic of ancient Maldivian mosques. Each pillar represents one of the six heroes who fought for the freedom and sovereignty of the Maldivian people.

The Dhoroashi is part of a dedicated national initiative in Haa Alif Atoll to preserve the legacy and memory of Ghazi Bandaaraain (Utheemu Mohamed Thakurufaanu). The initiative is being undertaken to revive and strengthen Maldivian national identity and culture, with the aim of safeguarding this heritage and ensuring its transmission to future generations through its integration with the tourism sector.

The project to develop the Boduthakurufaanu Handhaanee Dhoroashi was formally launched during President Dr Muizzu’s previous visit to Haa Alif Atoll.
