President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that to be Maldivian is to possess a thorough understanding of one's environment, homeland, and nation.

The President made these remarks in his address to the nation at the official National Day ceremony held in HA. Utheemu today.

Reflecting on the lessons drawn from the life of Utheemu Mahaaradhun, Sultan Al-Ghaazee Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al-Auzam, the President underlined the necessity for each generation of Maldivians to acquire the knowledge and skills pertinent to their era.

Just as Muhammad Thakurufaanu mastered wayfinding and the art of warfare, and deeply ingrained the nation's values within his heart, the President observed that modern Maldivians must likewise equip themselves with the competencies demanded by their time. He noted that, from his formative years, every action of this national hero serves as a vital and enduring lesson for contemporary generations.

Drawing on historical precedent, the President further highlighted that no distinction of rank, class, or gender has ever precluded sacrifice for the nation. In this regard, he paid tribute to the monumental sacrifices made by Maldivians across all walks of life: from Sultan Ali VI to Vilingili Raaveribe, from Nolhivaramfaru Edhurukaleygefaanu to Kanbaa Aisaa and Siththi Maavaa, and from Dhuvaafaru Dhandahelu to Muhammad Thakurufaanu.

The President concluded by stating that selfless service and sacrifice for the country is a defining Maldivian virtue, and that the true purpose of National Day should be to foster the spirit of civic consciousness and civilisation across Maldivian society.
