Geneva, Aug. 14 (SANA)TheUnited Nationson Friday warned that more than 650,000 people in South Sudan are at risk of losing food assistance within weeks due to a severe funding shortfall, according to data from the World Food Programme andUNHCR.

South Sudan is facing one of the world’s worst hunger crises, with more than 7.8 million people—over half the population—experiencing acutefood insecurity, and 2.2 million children suffering from acute malnutrition, the agencies said.

The last food distributions to the most vulnerable refugees in South Sudan—240,000 of the 650,000 refugees—will take place in September unless new funding is secured urgently, according toWFPdata published on its official website.
