SNS entrega dos centros de primer nivel e inicia intervención del Hospital Materno Ramón Báez
Santo Domingo.- The National Health Service (SNS) delivered two renovated and equipped first-level centers in the provinces of La Vega and Hermanas Mirabal, in addition to breaking ground for the renovation and expansion of the Ramón Báez Maternal Hospital, in Cotuí, as part of the actions promoted by the Government to strengthen Primary Care and bring quality health services to the communities.
First Level Center Renovation (CPN) Bayacanes
The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, together with the executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Julio Landrón, delivered the completely renovated and equipped First Level Center (CPN) Bayacanes, located in the municipal district of the same name, La Vega province,
During the event, Vice President Raquel Peña highlighted the commitment of President Luis Abinader's government to strengthening public health and thanked Dr. Julio Landrón for the committed work he carries out at the head of the SNS, highlighting that he has joined the machinery promoted by President Luis Abinader to continue advancing at the pace that the Dominican people need.
“With the inauguration of this Bayacanes First Level Center, we take another step so that the families of this community can have decent, close and quality health services, as part of President Luis Abinader's commitment to strengthening a primary care network that increasingly responds to the needs of our people,” said Peña.
For his part, the executive director of the SNS, Dr. Julio Landrón, highlighted that first-level centers constitute the population's gateway to the public health system, so their strengthening is essential to guarantee preventive, timely and quality care.
"What has been done in these six years by President Luis Abinader, by Vice President Raquel Peña and the entire national health team, is transcendental. Today you find greater dignity in humanized care in the different health centers," he stated.
The work represented a total investment of RD 19,191,790.28, aimed at improving the infrastructure and providing the establishment with the necessary equipment to offer more dignified, efficient and timely care to the inhabitants of Bayacanes and nearby communities.
The CPN Bayacanes now has two multipurpose offices, a vaccination area, a dental service, a pharmacy, a waiting room and two bathrooms, adequate spaces to improve both the user experience and the working conditions of health personnel.
First Level Center Delivery Los Cacaos
Since the event, the renovated Los Cacaos First Level Center was also inaugurated, located in the rural community of the same name, belonging to the municipality of Tenares, Hermanas Mirabal province, as part of the actions aimed at continuing to strengthen the Public Health Network.
The intervention required a total investment of RD 8,138,913.90, of which RD 6,566,520.50 were allocated to the renovation of the infrastructure and RD 1,572,393.40 to the equipment.
The head of the SNS explained that the renovated centers are part of a broad process of recovery of deteriorated health facilities, noting that Bayacanes corresponds to center number 1,119 intervened, while Los Cacaos represents 1,120 within this process.
"From the National Health Service we are working to change a culture that, for many years, led our population to think that it was unprotected. President Luis Abinader has come to pay that historic debt that we found in 2020, making reality what those who had the opportunity stopped doing for more than 20 years," said Dr. Julio Landrón.
First intervention at the Ramón Báez Maternal Hospital
The director of the SNS also headed the first palazo for the renovation and expansion of the Ramón Báez Maternal Hospital, in Cotuí, a project that represents an investment of more than RD 350 million and will significantly strengthen health care in the Sánchez Ramírez province.
The investment includes approximately RD 250 million for the execution of the work and an estimated RD 100 million for equipment, as part of the actions promoted by the government of President Luis Abinader to transform and strengthen the public health services network.
During the event, Landrón stated that the intervention responds to the commitment to guarantee closer, more dignified and timely health services, especially for mothers, children and families of Cotuí and the entire province.
He highlighted that the Ramón Báez Maternity Hospital has more than 74 years of history serving the population and pointed out that, after more than seven decades, “President Luis Abinader had to arrive to make an investment of this magnitude and transform this hospital, expand it, renovate it and provide it with better conditions to serve our people with dignity.”
The project includes the renovation of 696 square meters and the construction of more than 1,700 square meters of new areas distributed on two levels, which will expand the resolution capacity of the establishment and improve conditions for users and health personnel.
On the first level, emergency areas, triage, medication and nebulization, suturing, observation, vaccination, pharmacy, ten offices, laboratory, X-ray and sonography will be set up. In addition, it will have a detention area with capacity for 22 beds.
The second level will be aimed at strengthening specialized services, with intensive care units for adults, pediatrics and neonatal, as well as a surgical block with two operating rooms and two delivery rooms, preparation and recovery areas, sterilization and neonatal room.
The intervention of the Ramón Báez Maternal Hospital will allow for expanding the service offering, improving the response capacity and consolidating this establishment as a reference center for maternal and child care for the inhabitants of Cotuí and the communities of Sánchez Ramírez.

Durante el acto, Landrón afirmó que la intervención responde al compromiso de garantizarservicios de salud más cercanos, dignos y oportunos, especialmente para las madres, niños y familias de Cotuí y toda la provincia. Destacó que el Hospital Materno Ramón Báez cuenta conmás de 74 años de historia al servicio de la poblacióny señaló que, después de más de siete décadas,“ha tenido que llegar el presidente Luis Abinader para realizar una inversión de esta magnitud y transformar este hospital, ampliarlo, remozarlo y dotarlo de mejores condiciones para atender dignamente a nuestra gente”. El proyecto contempla elremozamientode 696 metros cuadrados y la construcción de más de 1,700 metros cuadrados denuevas áreas distribuidas en dos niveles, con lo que se ampliará la capacidad resolutiva del establecimiento y se mejorarán las condiciones para usuarios y personal sanitario. En el primer nivel serán habilitadas áreas de emergencia, triaje, medicación y nebulización, sutura, observación, vacunación, farmacia, diez consultorios, laboratorio, rayos X y sonografía. Además, contará con un área de internamiento con capacidad para 22 camas. El segundo nivel estará destinado al fortalecimiento de los servicios especializados, con unidades de cuidados intensivos para adultos, pediátrica y neonatal, así como un bloque quirúrgico con dos quirófanos y dos salas de parto, áreas de preparación y recuperación, esterilización y sala neonatal. La intervención del Hospital Materno Ramón Báez permitirá ampliar laoferta de servicios, mejorar lacapacidad de respuestay consolidar este establecimiento como uncentro de referencia para la atención materno-infantilde los habitantes de Cotuí y las comunidades de Sánchez Ramírez.
