Australia, UK deepen cooperation on advanced defense radar technology

Canberra, Aug. 14 (SANA)Australia and theUnited Kingdomhave signed a joint statement to deepen cooperation on advancedradar technology, strengthening defense and industrial ties between the two countries.

The agreement focuses on active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar technology developed by Canberra-based CEA Technologies, Australia’s Defense Department said in a statement Thursday.

Australia and Britain plan to pursue joint initiatives involving AESA radar capabilities following recent talks between their foreign and defense ministers, the department said.

The agreement comes as Canberra and London expand their strategic and defense cooperation, including through AUKUS, the trilateral security partnership established byAustralia, Britain and the United States in 2021.

While nuclear-powered submarines remain a central element ofAUKUS, the partnership also covers cooperation and technology sharing in a range of advanced defense capabilities.
