<Measures against high prices ①>
The Takauchi Cabinet has given top priority to addressing the ``high prices'' that the people are facing.
Some people say that the Takauchi Cabinet appears to be prioritizing the realization of its own political beliefs while neglecting measures to combat high prices that are hurting the people of Japan, but that is different from my understanding.
During the House of Councilors election last July, I was not a party official but a member of the House of Representatives belonging to the Liberal Democratic Party, but I was running around the country giving speeches in support of candidates as arranged by the party's campaign team. What I heard on the streets at that time were cries of sadness about the rise in prices, as well as voices that said, ``The Liberal Democratic Party's policies are hopeless.'' It felt like the entire Japanese archipelago was covered in an indescribable sense of ``stagnation.''
Let's take a look at the facts.
In fact, as of July last year, the ``inflation rate'' was 3.1% compared to the previous year, and the ``real wage increase rate'' was 0.3% compared to the previous year.
After that, I took office as Prime Minister on October 21, and my top priority has been to formulate a supplementary budget to counter high prices, and I have also aimed to formulate the Japan Growth Strategy and the Regional Future Strategy in order to turn everyone's concerns about the future into hope (both strategies were approved by the Cabinet in July of this year).
Thanks in part to the policy effects of the measures we have taken to combat high prices, we have been able to achieve the lowest inflation rate in the G7 (1.7% compared to the previous year) and the highest real wage increase rate in the G7 (1.7% compared to the previous year), as shown in the chart below.
The ``real wage increase rate'' refers to ``the increase in wages that exceeds the increase in prices,'' and in Japan, it has been positive for seven consecutive months.
Regarding the effect of pushing down the inflation rate due to various "support measures" introduced later, for example, ・0.7% point due to provisional gasoline tax rate abolition and fuel oil subsidy, etc. ・The so-called free education system has been set at 0.3% points.
Today, I would like to once again introduce the ``measures against high prices'' that the Takauchi Cabinet has prioritized.
