Vice President Hsiao Meiqin visited National Central University this morning (14th) and stated that in the face of the rapid development of the global space industry and technology, the government will integrate the fields of national defense, industry, scientific research, and talent cultivation to jointly promote national space development, continue to build Taiwan's space technology and talent base, and seize opportunities for international cooperation.

The Vice President first arrived at the Space and Telemetry Research Center and visited the antenna and satellite assembly and integration test room on the top floor of the Resource Satellite Receiving Station to learn about satellite data reception, development and telemetry applications. Continue to listen to relevant briefings on space talent cultivation, scientific research and industrial applications, homeland security and environmental monitoring of National Central University, and communicate with the research team on topics such as talent development and international space cooperation.

In his speech, the Vice President said that today was the first time he came to Central University. Since he is deeply interested in space-related issues, he seized this rare opportunity to come and study. The President has instructed the government to establish an inter-ministerial Space Development Committee under the structure of the National Security Council to integrate different fields such as national defense, industry, scientific research and talent cultivation to jointly promote national space development.

The Vice President said that he is not an expert in the space field, so he hopes to learn more about related issues. Central University is an important talent training base in the country. Through today’s visit and exchange, we can focus on many important issues, which is a very rare learning opportunity.

When talking about Taiwan's space development, the Vice President pointed out that compared to other countries, Taiwan entered the space field relatively late, but in the face of the rapid development of the global space industry and technology, Taiwan cannot be absent. When he recently met with NASA astronaut Dr. Kjell Lindgren, Dr. Lin also emphasized that more new international cooperation opportunities are emerging, including the promotion of relevant space cooperation bills by the United States and international cooperation driven by the Artemis project. In the past, Taiwan was not a relevant signatory, but now the United States has taken the initiative to discuss with Taiwan, hoping to find suitable areas for division of labor, cooperation and joint participation with other countries.

The Vice President further stated that from the perspective of the country's overall development, whether it is in the fields of telemetry, communications, national defense, etc., space technology is needed to support it. He believes that the role played by Central University will be more important in the future and will become an indispensable part of the country's overall space strategy.

Finally, the Vice President once again thanked the teachers and students of National Central University for their sharing and exchanges. He also hoped that the Ministry of Education would continue to provide support in relevant resources, and that the government and the academic community would work together to build Taiwan's space technology and talent base and create more opportunities for the country's future development.

Later, the Vice President went to the High Temperature and High Pressure Rock Mechanics Research Laboratory to visit relevant research facilities, listen to a briefing on scientific research on improving the country's catastrophic resilience, and learn about the research results of earthquake mechanisms, monitoring and early warning, and disaster prevention applications.
