New York, Aug. 14 (SANA)UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundbergcalled on Yemeni parties to de-escalate and restore calm along front lines, warning that the country faces a growing risk of returning to large-scale conflict.Briefing the UN Security Council on Thursday, Grundberg saidYemenwas facing its most serious risk of renewed widespread conflict since a UN-brokered truce was announced in 2022, according to remarks published by his office on X.Grundberg said the truce was intended as a stepping stone toward negotiations rather than an end in itself, aimed at creating space for talks on a comprehensive settlement.He said a negotiated way forward remained possible but stressed that any political process should address the priorities of the parties and the aspirations ofthe Yemeni people.The UN envoy called for efforts to secure a durable ceasefire, contain economic escalation and maintain constructive engagement with the United Nations toward an inclusive, Yemeni-led political process.Grundberg warned on July 24 that renewed attacks bythe Houthi militiaon commercial shipping in the Red Sea could fuel further escalation and undermine prospects for a political settlement.Tensions have continued in parts of Yemen amid Houthi militia attacks on several sites inside the country, resulting in casualties and property damage.
