Arab League condemns Israeli settlers’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Cairo, Aug. 14 (SANA)The Arab League condemned the storming ofAl-Aqsa Mosqueby hundreds of Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli occupation police, warning against attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo at the holy site.In a statement issued Thursday, the League said the incursions and the provocative acts inside the mosque’s courtyards violated its sanctity, international law and the established status quo.It warned against attempts to impose new realities at Al-Aqsa, including its temporal and spatial division, and held Israel, the occupying power, responsible for repeated violations.The League reaffirmed that Al-Aqsa Mosque is exclusively a place of worship for Muslims and thatthe Jerusalem Islamic WaqfandAl-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Departmentis the authority responsible for administering the site under the historical and legal status quo.It called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to act to halt Israeli violations and protect the Palestinian people and their holy sites.The League also rejected Israeli measures aimed at changing the status and Arab,Islamic and Christian character of Jerusalem, describing them as null and illegitimate.The Jerusalem Islamic Waqf Department said 584 Israeli settlers entered Al-Aqsa Mosque through the Moroccan Gate under the protection of Israeli occupation police and carried out provocative acts in its courtyards.
