The new head of the Ministry of Education (MEDUCA), Ventura Vega Osorio, today urged all sectors that make up the country's educational community to continue efforts to face the challenges of education, with children and young people as a priority, in order to guarantee the entire Panamanian family a quality education, which has been and is the focus of the government of the President of the Republic José Raúl Mulino.
In his first press conference held at the Las Garzas Palace Amphitheater, after being named earlier by President Mulino as the new Minister of Education, Vega Osorio highlighted his connection with education, not only because he graduated from the Juan Demóstenes Arosemena Normal School, where he graduated as a teacher, but because he comes from a family of teachers, which allows him to properly take on the challenge at MEDUCA and champion the National Government's mission of guaranteeing a good education in the country. education.
"As a representative of the government in MEDUCA, you will have a servant so that education is always the north of Panamanians and the students are the center of their attention. To the collaborators of MEDUCA who are over 69,000, including teachers and administrators, the message that we have to reinforce our work to give a good message and I will be the one who will champion this mission so that the population feels pleased in the work that we all do, including all entities (of the country),” he said, while mentioning the long experience he has had in the public sector.
The minister also indicated that as a respecter of the law, the processes that are already carried out in the entity will continue, and the transparency of the processes for the acquisition of the technological tools that are needed will be guaranteed so that young people in the public system have the same opportunities as other private educational centers.
Promote an Educational Law that allows strengthening and modernizing the national education system; guarantee safe, modern and adequate school infrastructure for students and teachers; strengthen dialogue with all sectors related to education, under a vision of joint construction; promote the incorporation of technology in the educational system, with the support of the different sectors of the country; seeking international cooperation and alliances that contribute to improving the opportunities and tools available for students and teachers and knowing first-hand the needs of the 16 educational regions, as part of the first actions of his administration, are just some of the actions that he has already outlined, as minister.
He also assured that his management will maintain an open-door policy, promoting the participation of teachers, parents, students, unions, the private sector, international organizations and other actors linked to educational development.
“We are going to listen, we are going to tour the regions and we are going to work with all sectors,” he stressed, reiterating his commitment to assume this responsibility with openness, transparency and willingness to dialogue. Likewise, he mentioned that his first actions will be focused on listening to the 16 educational regions, knowing their main needs and establishing a roadmap that allows addressing the most urgent priorities of the national educational system.

El ministro indicó, además, que como respetuoso de la ley, se continuarán los procesos que ya se llevan a cabo en la entidad, y se garantizará la transparencia de los procesos para la adquisición de las herramientas tecnológicas que se necesitan para que los jóvenes del sistema público tengan las mismas oportunidades que otros centros educativos privados. Impulsar una Ley Educativa que permita fortalecer y modernizar el sistema nacional de educación; garantizar infraestructuras escolares seguras, modernas y adecuadas para estudiantes y docentes; fortalecer el diálogo con todos los sectores relacionados con la educación, bajo una visión de construcción conjunta; promover la incorporación de tecnología en el sistema educativo, con el apoyo de los distintos sectores del país; buscar cooperación y alianzas internacionales que contribuyan a mejorar las oportunidades y herramientas disponibles para estudiantes y docentes y conocer de primera mano las necesidades de las 16 regiones educativas, como parte de las primeras acciones de su gestión, son solo algunas de las acciones que ya se ha trazado, como ministro. Aseguró también que su gestión mantendrá una política de puertas abiertas, promoviendo la participación de docentes, padres de familia, estudiantes, gremios, sector privado, organismos internacionales y demás actores vinculados al desarrollo educativo. “Vamos a escuchar, vamos a recorrer las regiones y vamos a trabajar con todos los sectores”, subrayó, al reiterar su compromiso de asumir esta responsabilidad con apertura, transparencia y disposición al diálogo. Igualmente, mencionó que sus primeras acciones estarán enfocadas en escuchar a las 16 regiones educativas, conocer sus principales necesidades y establecer una hoja de ruta que permita atender las prioridades más urgentes del sistema educativo nacional.
