UN says 437 civilians killed in Ukraine in July, highest monthly toll since 2022

Geneva, Aug. 13 (SANA)At least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 wounded inUkrainein July, the highest monthly civilian casualty toll since March 2022, theUnited Nationssaid Thursday.The UNHuman RightsMonitoring Mission in Ukraine said civiliancasualtiesrose 30% from June and 70% compared with July 2025, according to AFP.The mission attributed the increase to intensified Russian use of missiles, drones and glide bombs, saying long-range weapons were the leading cause of civilian casualties during the month, killing 183 people and wounding 967.Civilian casualties in the first seven months of 2026 reached 12,477, including 1,839 killed and 10,638 wounded, up 44% from the same period last year, the mission said.The United Nations cautioned that the verified figures could be lower than the actual toll as reports of civilian casualties were still being verified.The figures come amid continued escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war, with missile and drone attacks targeting areas in both countries.
