Today, a tanker loaded with Canadian crude oil arrived in Japan for the first time since the deterioration of the situation in the Middle East.
Canada is an important partner in the area of economic security, which I am strongly promoting.
When Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited Japan on March 6 of this year, the two countries agreed to elevate their relationship to a new height of a "comprehensive strategic partnership," and signed the Japan-Canada Leaders' Statement, the first summit document between the two countries.
Regarding crude oil in particular, at the summit meeting with Prime Minister Carney, we discussed the "procurement of Canadian crude oil" as a specific example of the strategic partnership between Japan and Canada.
This crude oil procurement is a concrete example of successful cooperation between Japan and Canada in the field of energy security, following LNG and small modular reactors, and is very gratifying and significant from the perspective of ensuring Japan's energy security.
We will continue to work closely with Canada, a reassuring and like-minded country that is working together to promote a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
Regarding alternative procurement of crude oil, we are making maximum efforts to obtain alternative procurement that does not pass through the Strait of Hormuz through public-private collaboration.As of August, we are currently forecasting that we will be able to achieve approximately 100% of the procurement rate compared to the previous year's normal level without relying on stockpiling releases.
So far, in addition to the Middle East and the United States, we have received crude oil from Latin America, the Asia Pacific, Central Asia, and Africa, and now Canada will be joining us.
The Takauchi Cabinet will continue to promote alternative procurement of crude oil, limit the release of stockpiles, secure ``the amount needed for Japan as a whole,'' and work to ensure that the lives and livelihoods of the people and economic activities are not disrupted.

本日、カナダ産の原油を積んだタンカーが、中東情勢悪化後初めて、日本に到着しました。 カナダは、私自身が強力に推し進めている経済安保分野における重要なパートナーです。 今年3月6日に、マーク・カーニー・カナダ首相が来日された際、両国の関係を「包括的戦略的パートナーシップ」という新たな高みに引き上げることで一致するとともに、両国間の初めての首脳文書として、『日カナダ首脳声明』に署名いたしました。 特に、原油については、カーニー首相との首脳会談において、「カナダ産原油の調達」は、日カナダ間の戦略的パートナーシップの具体的な事例として議論いたしました。 今回の原油調達は、LNGや小型モジュール炉に続く、エネルギー安全保障分野における日本とカナダの協力の具体的な成功事例であり、大変喜ばしく、日本のエネルギー安全保障の確保の観点からも、意義深いことです。 「自由で開かれたインド太平洋（FOIP）」の推進を共に担う心強い同志国であるカナダと、緊密に連携してまいります。 原油の代替調達につきましては、官民連携の下、ホルムズ海峡を通らない代替調達に最大限取り組んでおり、8月についても、現時点で、備蓄放出に頼ることなく、前年平月比で約10割の調達が実現できる見通しです。 これまでに、中東や米国に加え、中南米､アジア太平洋、中央アジア、アフリカから、原油が届き、今回、ここにカナダが加わることになります。 高市内閣は、今後も原油の代替調達を進め、備蓄の放出を抑えながら、「日本全体として必要となる量」を確保し、国民の皆様の命と暮らし、そして経済活動に支障が生じないよう、取り組んでまいります。
