Djibouti, Aug. 13 (SANA)Djibouti strongly condemned Colombia’s recognition of what it called “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupiedSyrian Golan, saying the move violates international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Djibouti’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement on X Wednesday that Colombia’s decision contradicts fundamental principles ofinternational law, particularly the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by force.

The ministry said the recognition also constitutes a flagrant violation ofUN Security CouncilResolution 497 of 1981, which declared Israel’s decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan null and void and without legal effect.

Djiboutiwarned that such positions, rather than contributing to a just and lasting peace, could entrench an illegal fait accompli and undermine regional stability.

The ministry reaffirmed Djibouti’s commitment to international legitimacy and stressed that the Golan remains occupied Arab Syrian territory.

It also said any unilateral decision seeking to alter the legal status, geographical character or demographic composition of the occupied Syrian Golan is illegal and cannot confer legitimacy on measures taken by Israel.

On Wednesday, the Syrian Arab Republic submitted an official letter toUNSecretary-General António Guterres and the President of the Security Council, expressing its protest, condemnation and categorical rejection of Colombia’s recognition of what it called “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan.
