Beijing, Aug. 13 (SANA)Chinese authorities have evacuated 65,000 people in central China’s Henan province as heavy rain brought by Typhoon Dolphin battered large areas, Xinhua reported Thursday, citing provincial authorities.

Authorities provided temporary shelters for evacuees and stepped up emergency measures as heavy rainfall continued across the province.

Henan raised its weather alert to red, the highest level, on Wednesday morning, with the provincial meteorological center forecasting widespread heavy rain in areas north of the Huaihe River through Thursday.

The forecast also warned of short periods of intense rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds.

Authorities have evacuated residents from high-risk areas and strengthened disaster prevention measures, while more than 3,800 emergency response teams comprising over 50,000 personnel have been deployed, according to provincial officials.

Typhoon Dolphin, the 13th typhoon to affectChinathis year, made landfall twice in eastern Zhejiang province on Sunday, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated in eastern China on Monday as the storm brought heavy rain and flooding, with warnings remaining in effect even as Dolphin weakened after landfall.F.J./ABD
