Cirugías gratuitas de cataratas amplían el acceso a atención oftalmológica especializada en Concepción
The interventions are carried out every Tuesday, with an average of between 8 and 10 procedures per day, allowing patients who require treatment to access specialized, free, quality ophthalmological care in the department itself.
At the Regional Hospital, the authorities spoke with benefited patients and with the specialized team in charge of the interventions.
Specialized care with regional reach
The service benefits not only residents of Concepción. Among the patients treated are people from Pedro Juan Caballero, San Pedro, Puerto Casado, Horqueta and different districts of the department, consolidating the Regional Hospital as an access point to this treatment for residents of different locations in the north of the country.
Since the beginning of the interventions, the operated patients were discharged with favorable progress, recovering their visual capacity and achieving a significant improvement in their quality of life.
The surgeries are performed using the dephacoemulsification technique, considered an international standard for the treatment of cataracts. The procedure fragments the opacified lens using ultrasound through a microincision and subsequently replaces it with a foldable intraocular lens. It is a minimally invasive intervention, with high precision and rapid recovery.
Health services closer to the population
The periodic performance of these surgeries is part of the decentralization process of specialized health services, bringing procedures that require technical and professional capacity to patients who previously had to travel to access this type of care.
To enter the service, patients can go from Monday to Friday to the Regional Hospital of Concepción. There they are evaluated in the Ophthalmology Office, where the medical consultation, pre-surgical studies and the selection of those who require surgery are carried out.
The expansion of these services is integrated into the actions that advance health matters in Concepción. Added to the specialized care currently available is the construction of the Gran Hospital del Norte, as part of strengthening the health capacity of the department.
