Vicepresidenta Raquel Peña y ministro Kelvin Cruz entregan techado del multiuso Plaza Independencia
Santo Domingo.– Vice President Raquel Peña, together with the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, delivered the roof of the multipurpose Plaza Independencia, a modern facility designed to strengthen sports practice and community activities in this area of Santo Domingo.
With an investment of RD 48,984,571.27 and a constructed area of approximately 1,100 square meters, the multipurpose facility was comprehensively intervened to offer better conditions to athletes, sports clubs and community residents, which represents the 60th delivered work in the administration of Cruzal in front of the Ministry of Sports (Miderec).
“Here, in this Plaza Independencia club, we are sowing the future, we are sowing the present, we are sowing hope, we are sowing the opportunity for our young people today to make a commitment to redouble the effort to continue practicing, to continue conquering more young people to bring together, through this structure, a great youth that can develop a change of ideals to generate good citizens,” Cruz said.
The official said that this work represents a new step in the program of recovery, construction and transformation of sports facilities promoted by President Abinadera's government through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec).
Cruz highlighted that each facility delivered responds to the vision of President Luis Abinader and Vice President Peña to use sport as a tool for social transformation, which is why he took the opportunity to swear in the volunteer who will be responsible for the use and care of the facilities.
In addition to Cruz, Felipe “Fellito” Suberví, director of the Caasd, spoke; Elizabeth Mateo, general secretary of the City Council of the National District (ADN), representing the mayor, Carolina Mejía; Pedro Manuel Pérez, president of the Plaza Independencia club, and Jean Carlos Vega, of the ADN Council of Aldermen.
“On behalf of the community, Kelvin, I heartily congratulate you and thank you for this new roof,” said Suberví. “With this roof I have the greatest satisfaction and hope that one day the Plaza Independencia club will be part of the clubs that compete in the top basketball tournament,” he added.
The delivery of the multipurpose Plaza Independencia also has a special meaning for Cruz's management, since it becomes the 60th sports project delivered during his practically two years at the head of the Ministry of Sports.
The roof has a new metal structure, stands, reinforced concrete floor for the playing area, perimeter fence, general painting, synthetic floor and sports equipment, including boards with FIBA specifications, blackboards, 24-second clocks and elements for volleyball practice, in addition to new electrical installations.

Cruz destacó que cada instalación entregada responde a lavisión del presidente Luis Abinader y de la vicepresidenta Peñade utilizar el deporte como unaherramienta de transformación social, por lo que aprovechó para juramentar elvoluntariadoque tendrá la responsabilidad deluso y cuidadode las instalaciones. La entrega del multiuso Plaza Independencia tiene además unsignificado especial para la gestión de Cruz,ya que se convierte en laobra deportiva número 60entregada durante sus prácticamentedos años al frente del Ministerio de Deportes. El techado cuenta con una nueva estructura metálica, gradas, piso de hormigón armado para el área de juego, verja perimetral, pintura general, piso sintético y equipamiento deportivo, incluidos tableros con especificaciones FIBA, pizarras, relojes de 24 segundos y elementos para la práctica del voleibol, además de nuevas instalaciones eléctricas.
