Lula, thank you very much for coming. If the people aren't interested in politics, someone else will be. [music] And the less the people participate, the more someone else participates on their behalf. I went to Brasília to talk at the National Congress, to talk to a congressman [about music], and what was the greatest discovery of my life? The reason is that there were no workers in the National Congress. Then I started thinking, we want this congress to pass a law to benefit us. Nobody notices here. That's because it's humanly impossible to have the number of people going hungry that there are in Latin America. In Brazil, a child dies every 5 minutes . Most diseases [music] of hunger. We are desperately hungry, we have no love for anything, no strength to do anything. We can't really explain what hunger is, can we? It's only when people experience it firsthand that they can truly feel it. And I, who have so often been accused of not having a higher education degree, receive as my first diploma, a diploma as president of the Republic of my country. Brazil has reduced the number of malnourished people [music] by more than 80%. We started building the family port, full of people, to say [in music] that it was better to commit robberies, it was better to build a highway. And I was saying, [music] if people ate cement, I would build the highway. But what people eat is beans, rice, and so on. And we're going to give it. The electoral court has just confirmed the victory of Luís Inácio Lula da Silva of the P party in the presidential election . Brazil is my cause. The people are my cause. And fighting poverty is the reason I will live for the rest of my life [to make music]. The UN announced today that after 3 years, Brazil [music] has once again been removed from Ford's world map. The first thing he did was put fear on the poor worker's table. I don't want to be the president of just one [music] family anymore. It's all more, more, and more. We need to do more. The greatest asset of this nation is not just [music] or capital, it is the workers.
