During the meeting, the regional situation and the developments taking place in the region were discussed, with emphasis on the importance of taking the necessary steps to protect Iraq’s supreme national interests and consolidate the foundations of de-escalation and stability. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening the rule of law, developing the security and military institutions, and consolidating economic and social stability, in a manner that safeguards the authority of the state and strengthens citizens’ confidence in its official institutions. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces reiterated that the decision to end the mission of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in Iraq on September 30 is final and irreversible.
