Lebanese army: Israeli attacks hinder deployment in south

Beirut, Aug. 12 (SANA)The Lebanese army said Wednesday that continued Israeli attacks and violations of existing understandings and international law are hindering the completion of its deployment in southern Lebanon, the return of residents and efforts to restore stability.

The army’s Guidance Directorate said in a statement thatIsraeli forcesblew up the municipal building, a public school, a health clinic, a nursery and several homes in the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah in Nabatieh.

It added that the army continues to carry out its duties in the south despite significant challenges posed by the Israeli attacks.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) recorded 552 Israeli violations in southern Lebanon between Friday and Sunday, including 455 projectiles fired at various locations and 97 violations of Lebanese airspace, mostly involving drones.

Lebanon and Israel reached a framework agreement on June 26 that provides for the disarmament of armed groups outside state authority, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they entered in southern Lebanon and the deployment of the Lebanese army, beginning in two pilot areas.F.J.
