SNS destaca disponibilidad diaria de más del 53 % de camas en la Red Pública
Santo Domingo.- The executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Julio Landrón, reported that daily the Public Network has more than 53% of the hospital beds available in hospital centers, as a result of the strengthening of the resolution capacity, the modernization of hospitals and the improvement of patient care processes.
The director of the SNS highlighted the progress made in the last six years, aimed at guaranteeing humanized and quality health services.
He explained that currently the occupancy of hospitalization beds is around 43%, while in the Intensive Care Units (ICU) it is around 71%, which allows the Public Network to have more than 2,500 hospitalization beds and more than 50 ICU beds available daily to respond to the needs of users.
The head of the SNS highlighted that this availability demonstrates the transformation experienced by the Public Network since 2020, through investments aimed at the construction and renovation of infrastructure, incorporation of equipment and technologies, digitalization of processes and strengthening of specialized services.
"Today we have modern hospitals, equipped and with greater capacity to respond in a timely manner. We have moved towards a Public Network that guarantees humanized, dignified and quality services to the population," said Landrón.
As an example of advances in hospital efficiency, Landrón cited the Dr. Darío Contreras Traumatological Hospital, where he assured that patients who previously could remain hospitalized for long periods waiting for procedures; They currently receive a more timely response.
“A patient who previously could stay up to three months at the Darío Contreras, today can be operated on in a timely manner and stay around four days, according to his clinical condition,” he indicated.
The executive director reiterated the call to the population to continue using the Public Network establishments and highlighted that during the first six months of 2026, more than 25 million services were offered, a figure that represents more than 10 million additional services compared to 2019.
SNS will intervene in the Children's Orthopedics area of Darío Contreras
Landrón reported that the Children's Orthopedics area of the Dr. Darío Contreras Traumatological Hospital, which has been closed since 2018, will be intervened with the aim of recovering this important service and strengthening trauma and orthopedic care for the pediatric population.
SNS invites past directors to learn about the transformation of hospitals
The executive director of the SNS invited previous managers of the health sector to visit the hospitals of the Public Network and personally verify the transformation they have experienced in the last six years.
Landrón stated that some maintain a vision associated with the conditions that the establishments presented years ago and assured that the current reality is different.
"We invite those who managed health in the past to tour our hospitals and see the transformation. They are no longer those warehouses of patients that we found, with patients waiting for long periods for a response. Today we have modern, equipped, digitalized hospitals with greater resolution capacity," he said.
The official maintained that the country has moved towards a model focused on reducing response times, improving the availability of beds and guaranteeing more efficient care.
Landrón reiterated that it is a commitment of the Government to continue strengthening the infrastructure, equipment, technology and human talent of the Public Network, with the aim of guaranteeing timely, humanized and quality services to Dominicans.

Hemos avanzado hacia una Red Pública que garantiza servicios humanizados, dignos y de calidad a la población”,expresó Landrón. Como ejemplo de los avances en eficiencia hospitalaria, Landrón citó elHospital Traumatológico Dr. Darío Contreras, donde aseguró que pacientes que anteriormente podían permanecer durante largos períodos ingresados a la espera de procedimientos; actualmente recibenuna respuesta más oportuna. “Un paciente que antes podía permanecer hasta tres meses en el Darío Contreras, hoy puede ser operado oportunamente y permanecer alrededor de cuatro días, de acuerdo con su condición clínica”,indicó. El director ejecutivo reiteró el llamado a la población a continuar utilizando los establecimientos de la Red Pública y destacó que durante losprimeros seis meses de 2026fueron ofrecidosmás de 25 millones de servicios, cifra que representa más de 10 millones de atenciones adicionales en comparación con 2019. Ya no son aquellos almacenes de enfermos que encontramos, con pacientes esperando durante largos períodos por una respuesta. Hoy tenemos hospitales modernos, equipados, digitalizados y con mayor capacidad resolutiva”,manifestó. El funcionario sostuvo que el país ha avanzado hacia unmodelo enfocado en reducir los tiempos de respuesta, mejorar ladisponibilidad de camasy garantizar unaatención más eficiente.
