In his speech, the President said that he was very happy to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines today with all distinguished guests. He would like to once again thank Prime Minister Godwin Friday and his wife for leading a delegation to visit, demonstrating their high degree of friendship with Taiwan. He would also like to thank all the good friends present for supporting the Taiwan-Shengtai friendship and witnessing this important historical moment together.
The President pointed out that Taiwan and St. Vincent are both maritime countries and share universal values such as democracy, freedom, human rights and the rule of law. Although they are separated by a long geographical distance, they have never hindered their sincere friendship. Over the past 45 years, as Prime Minister Fred mentioned, the world situation has been constantly changing, and the world has also faced many challenges. However, no matter how the environment evolves, Taiwan and St. Paul have always upheld the spirit of mutual trust and reciprocity, supporting each other and walking side by side.
The president said that Prime Minister Fred and he have strong determination to open up a longer future for the friendship between the two countries and usher in a brighter 45 years. Especially in recent years, the two countries have continued to deepen cooperation in areas such as industrial exchanges, talent cultivation, and infrastructure construction. From the construction of the Arnos Valley Acute and Critical Care Hospital to the promotion of the "Young Farmer Training Program" and the "Livestock Development Program", they have brought substantial benefits to the people of St. Vincent, and have deepened the friendship between Taiwan and St. Vincent. People's exchanges, cooperation, and feelings are getting better and better, making Taiwan and Saint Petersburg a partnership.
The president mentioned that current challenges such as the expansion of authoritarianism, climate change, public health, and digital security have posed severe threats to the international community, and no country can face them alone. We have a deeper understanding that democratic partners must be united, and cooperation between them is not only to promote bilateral development, but also to build a close international network to jointly safeguard global democracy, peace and prosperity.
The president said that Prime Minister Fried's visit this time also hosted a cocktail reception in Taiwan to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which further established that Taiwan and St. Vincent's country share the same beliefs and goals; we will make great strides forward together, continue to go to the world, and embrace the world.
The President pointed out that today we commemorate the 45 years of friendship together, and Ambassador Kenton X. Chance present is the best representative. When Ambassador Jiang Kangte presented his credentials to him, he specifically mentioned that he turned 45 this year, which was when the friendship between the two countries began. Ambassador Jiang Kangte came to Taiwan to study in 2006 and came to Taiwan again this year to serve as the ambassador to Taiwan. He has witnessed the educational cooperation between Taiwan and Saint Petersburg, and it also confirms that the bilateral friendship continues to be passed down and gradually grows among the young people from generation to generation.
The president said that there were also representatives of St. Vincent's students in Taiwan present, and he wanted to tell every friend who came to Taiwan to study and exchange that everyone's participation and investment represent a promising future for Taiwan's St. Vincent's. We hope that more young people will become witnesses and participants in the relationship between the two countries, injecting new vitality into bilateral cooperation. We also hope that everyone will treat Taiwan as their second home, "We are one family."
The President expressed his belief that with the joint efforts of Taiwan and St. Vincent, we can not only respond to international changes, but also create new opportunities in the face of challenges. Finally, on behalf of the government and all the people of Taiwan, I sincerely wish that the friendship between the two countries will last forever, and that all distinguished guests will have good health, all the best, and happy families.
