Prime Minister Mr. Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi receives the Chairman and members of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee •••••••••• Today, Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Mr. Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, received the Chairman of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Mr. Khaled Miteb Al-Obaidi, and the representatives of the committee. During the meeting, the situation in the country was reviewed, and the efforts made by the various types and formations of the security services to impose security and stability and protect the country’s borders and airspace against various threats, especially in light of the events and repercussions the region is witnessing. His Excellency directed the preparation of a draft law to restrict weapons to the state, in accordance with constitutional contexts, indicating that the most dangerous thing that threatens the state is uncontrolled weapons, as they undermine the rule of law and weaken the prestige of security institutions. He pointed out the importance of strengthening the position of the state with its sovereignty, prestige and constitutional institutions, and maximizing the capabilities of the military institution to ensure internal stability linked to economic, political and security stability, in a way that preserves the security and safety of Iraq and the capabilities of its people. The Prime Minister stressed the need for integrated work and coordination between the executive and legislative authorities, in order to enhance stability, legislate laws, and provide legislative cover for government development plans and programmes, indicating the importance of holding periodic meetings with the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee to complete these files. For his part, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee affirmed the committee’s support, through its supervisory and legislative role, for all the government’s measures and steps, to strengthen the state and its security and military institutions, most notably enhancing the capabilities of the armed forces, protecting borders, developing air defense systems, and raising the level of readiness, to fortify Iraq’s security and preserve its sovereignty from the repercussions of regional and international crises. ••••• Media Office of the Prime Minister 11-August-2026
