Ankara/Riyadh, Aug. 12 (SANA)Türkiye, theGulf Cooperation Council (GCC)and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned Colombia’s recognition of what it called “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan, stressing that the territory remains an integral part of Syria.

Türkiye’s Foreign Ministrystrongly condemned the Colombian statement, saying it sought to legitimize the Israeli occupation of the Golan.

“We strongly condemn the statement issued byColombia, which aims to legitimize the Israeli occupation of the Golan, an integral part of Syria,” the ministry said in a statement carried by Anadolu Agency.

The ministry said Colombia’s move constitutes a serious violation of international law, particularlyUN Security Council Resolution497, and has no legal validity.

It renewed its call on the international community to fulfill its obligations to end theIsraeli occupationof theSyrian Golanand halt Israeli attacks targeting Syria’s sovereignty and stability. It also reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and for efforts to establish lasting peace and stability in the country.

GCC Secretary-GeneralJasem Mohamed Al Budaiwialso strongly condemned the Colombian government’s recognition, saying it contradicts international laws and resolutions that affirm the Golan is occupied Syrian Arab territory.

“Any decisions or recognitions that do not reflect the reality and facts established by international and UN resolutions are unacceptable and undermine efforts to achieve peace and security in the region,” Al Budaiwi said in a statement published on the GCC website.

He called on theColombian governmentto withdraw the recognition and urged the Israeli occupation to comply with international resolutions requiring its withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories, including the occupied Syrian Golan.

Al Budaiwi reiterated the GCC states’ firm support for Syria and their commitment to preserving its sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, including the occupied Golan, while rejecting any measures or violations that undermineSyrian sovereignty.

In the same context, the OIC strongly condemned the Colombian statement, saying the move sought to entrench the status quo and legitimize the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan.

OICSecretary-GeneralHissein Brahim Tahasaid the measure constitutes a clear violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981.

Taha stressed thatColombia’s recognitiondoes not alter the legal status of the Syrian Golan as occupied Syrian Arab territory under international law and relevant UN resolutions.

He called on Colombia to withdraw its recognition and reiterated the OIC’s support for Syria’s unity, security, stability and territorial integrity.

The Colombian statement, issued Monday, drew widespreadArab and Islamic condemnation, while Syria reaffirmed that the Golan is an integral part of its territory and said the statement constitutes a flagrant violation of the UN Charter.
