Ebola deaths in DR Congo surpass 2,000 as outbreak accelerates
Kinshasa, Aug. 12 (SANA)The death toll from anEbola outbreakin the Democratic Republic of theCongohas surpassed 2,000, authorities said Tuesday, as infections continue to rise in what health officials describe as the fastest outbreak of the disease ever recorded.
The country has recorded 4,381 confirmed cases across five provinces, including 2,011 deaths, Reuters reported, citing the latest figures from theCongolese public health institute.
The figures show a sharp increase from last week, when the Health Ministry reported 3,973 confirmed cases and 1,801 deaths.
The latest data means more than 400 additional confirmed infections and over 200 deaths have been recorded since the previous update, underscoring the rapid pace of the outbreak.
